Following is a draft Mission Statement that I prepared to begin to put some substance to the idea of creating a charitable program for our reunion group. Hopefully, we can begin to move forward with this plan.

KAS CARES MISSION STATEMENT

Alumni of the Karachi American School share a special bond. We were fortunate enough to live in an interesting place, Karachi, Pakistan, during a time when Central Asia was accessible to westerners. A special part of our education was the opportunity to live overseas and to meet and make friends with Pakistanis our own age and experience a true international community. Most of us were fortunate enough to attain quality college educations after leaving Karachi and have gone on to good careers and prosperous lives.
Now that we have the perspective on life that allows us to appreciate the opportunities that life has afforded us, we want to give something back to the country and people of Pakistan in honor of the importance they hold in our lives. For this reason, willing Alumni of the Karachi American School set forth the following statement of purpose to establish a means to make personal contributions to the betterment of Pakistan and its people:
	1.	We intend to establish a charitable fund to support the education of Pakistani children under criteria established by a Board of Directors.
	2.	We shall establish a non-profit corporation called “KAS CARES, Inc.” in such a way that it qualifies for Section 501(c)(3) tax exempt status under federal law and apply to the Internal Revenue Service for such tax-exempt status so that donations to our fund will be deductible by the donors.
	3.	We will operate KAS CARES, Inc. in such a way that its tax-exempt status will not be impaired and will ensure that monies given by KAS CARES, Inc. to other charitable organizations will not jeopardize the tax-exempt status of KAS CARES, Inc.
	4.	The initial Board of Directors of KAS CARES, Inc. shall consist of Pete Nelson, Yusuf Dadabhoy, Qasim Rizvi, Carol Naughton, and David Fuqua, who shall serve without compensation, although they may be reimbursed for reasonable out-of-pocket expenses incurred on behalf of the corporate undertaking.
	5.	The Board of Directors shall identify a suitable organization in Pakistan to receive the charitable donations from KAS CARES, Inc. and shall establish appropriate criteria for use of the monies in Pakistan.
	6.	The Board of Directors shall adopt a plan to present to the KAS Alumni to establish a program for fund-raising or charitable donation to KAS CARES, Inc.
	7.	All donations to KAS CARES, Inc. will be voluntary, and solicitations shall be limited to informing KAS Alumni of opportunities to give without “high pressure” tactics of any kind.
	8.	The amount of donations to KAS CARES, Inc. shall be kept confidential. The identity of donors may be disclosed unless a request to remain anonymous is made.

Hello everybody!

Whatz going on folks? Since our last alum get-together, and since David started this wonderful Phorum, not much has happened? Lots of hits from what I see, but hardly any exchanges.

Personally, I have had a few emails. I would like to see more of us getting on board this Phorum xchange, and get some communication going. Try atleast once a week. PLEASE!

Since my last posting about KAS CARES, I have found the following Staff/Admin. folks. For those of us in the mid-60s we know of James Shanks, who thought us Scinece...Physics & Chemistry.....I found him well and living in So. California, Northridge to be exact. Drop him a note. Contact him at:bennett50@sbcglobal.net

Guy Lott, the Superintendent is living with his ailing wife in Pennsacola, Florida. He too will be glad to hear from anyone of us. His contact is:
guylottjr@msn.com

Finally, Mrs. Turowics, (the Grand Lady, as I call her) is still living in Karachi, Pakistan. If I am not mistaken, she is now in her 90s! Some of you may remember her daughters, Magda and Alice. I dont know about Magda, but Alice who was my class mate passed away about 10 years ago from cancer. She leaves behind 2 sons. Once again, those of you who knew her, please drop her an email. Her contact is: zoftur@cyber.net.pk

Well, thats about all for now from me. Untill next time.....
